Item Number B0148:

Very attractive Biedermeier style, Viennese single weight regulator with a one piece flat dial and cast brass pie crust bezel.

See Description and pictures below:

***SOLD***

Beautiful circa 1850 Biedermeier Vienna regulator in light wood case. I am unsure if it is Birch or maybe Ash. This Vienna regulator is of classic design and proportions witha beautifully detailed tail. The week running single train movement is provided with a dead beat escapement, and beat regulation. The rare signed ‘one-piece’ porcelain dial has fine Roman numerals, delicate blued steel hands and an early pie crust bezel. The dial signature reads, Grg Schmidt, Salzburg. The pendulum has a wood rod and the brass cased weight is supported by a most attractive pulley. This is a most rare and collectible antique Vienna regulator as very few of the Biedermeier style Vienna regulators were ever made.

The clock is approximately 42" long . It is just under 12" wide at it's widest. The case has banding wood around the windows and other areas of the clock. The banding wood is also light colored, but this does still contrast with the base wood. This light colored banding wood is often referred to "satin banding".

The dial has a signature Grg Schmidt, Salzburg. The dial is nice and bright with a few hairline cracks that are only visible up close (as is usual for these 150+ year old clocks). The pendulum stick is made from wood. The front and back of the pendulum bob are both brass.

Caveats: The head is a later carving but very appropriate for the period. The bottom carving is later as well. The weight and wall stabilizers are hand made reproductions, but very proper for this clock. The clock has apparently been refinished, but it is a very professional job and looks great.

This clock is really terrific , it runs well and keeps good time. This clock would be a wonderful addition to your collection.
