Beautiful Transitional/Altdeutsch Vienna Regulator !
Item B0158
Price $2650 + S&H (US dollars)
This beautiful ca. 1885 Vienna regulator combines elements from the Altdeutsch and 'Transitional" case style. The clock measures approximately 53” long by 17” wide. It runs about 8 days on a winding and chimes in the Grand Sonnerie sequence as is usually for a 3 weight Vienna regulator. The movement is unsigned.
The case has a beautiful Walnut veneer, with the golden color found in European Walnut furniture.
The dial measures approximately 7“, has very fine hands, and a beautiful brass bezel. The pendulum rod is wood and the pendulum front is brass. This clock is a real beauty and runs and chimes properly.
This clock strikes on two chime rods. This was done on some of the later Vienna regulators, and provides a more melodic chime than the more usual coiled chime. The movement mounts to the case using a woodedn seat board, which is typical of an Austrian made Vienna regulator. The movement has been recently serviced by a professional clock repairman and is in great condition.
The crown is proper but a later replacment. I also believe the two outer finails are later replacements, but they look OK to me. The bottom triangular "finial" is likely also a replacement, as I have never seen one like this on this period of clock, but I can't really say for sure either way.
Just a note: The thing behind the crown in the pictures is the doorbell for my home. It is not a part of the clock.
A clock like this is quite rare!
