SOLD!
Very attractive rare 3/4 size, circa 1870, transitional style, often called "late Biedermeier", Vienna regulator in Rosewood veneer case with accents. This Vienna regulator is of classic design and proportions with a beautiful carved crest. The clock incorporates a two weight, 8 day, movement that strikes on the hours and half hours. Dimensions are approximately 42 inches tall by 11 1/2 inches wide at the widest point up near the top. The two train movement is provided with a dead beat escapement and beat regulation. The signed porcelain dial has fine Roman numerals, delicate blued steel hands and a ‘pie-crust’ bezel. The pendulum has a wood rod and the brass cased weights are supported by most attractive pulleys. The porcelain dial measures 5 3/8 inches and the cast pie crust brass bezel with a 6 1/4 inch OD. The dial is signed "Piller Bella" "Funfkirchen". "Funfkirchen" was a small town in the old Austro-Hungarian Empire, not far from Vienna. Today the city Funfkirchen is called PECS, and is in Hungary. The movement has been completely restored to "Like Original" condition within the last year and is in very good running condition. . Included is a nice fancy winding key. Caveats: Unfortunately, the beautiful carved crest is a later replacement, as are the weights. It appears that the movement, although a wonderful hand made "Viennese" movement of the same period as the case, (and proper for this case), is not the original movement. The pendulum hanger also appears to be a replacement, although the pendulum bob, adjuster, etc. appear to be original. There is a small chip out of the veneer at the door bottom. It can be seen in one of the pictures below.
